THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE CHAÎNE

The International Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is governed by the Conseil Magistral and the Conseil d'Administration which meet annually in Paris. The United States, as one of the larger national chapters, has three representatives on the Conseil Magistral. Former members of the Conseil Magistral may be appointed to the Conseil d'Honneur which has no regulatory authority.

The Bailliage des U.S.A. (National Chapter) has offices in Houston and New York City. The chief executive officer of the United States is the Bailli Délégué des U.S.A. (President).

The Bailli Délégué meets with members of the Board of Directors several times annually, frequently in different regions of the country. Baillis (Chapter Presidents) are invited to join the Board of Directors for these meetings and to express their opinions to the directors for presentation.

At least annually, normally during the National Convention, the Bailli Délégué will convene the National Council, which is comprised of all Baillis, Regional Baillis, National Officers, Pairs, and former Bailli Délégués. Whenever possible, major decisions are deferred and considered at these meetings of the National Council to provide an opportunity for input by all members.

Regional Baillis report to the Board of Directors. Their duties are national in scope and may be delegated by the Bailli Délégué in addition to their having administrative authority in their regions. The Regional Bailli coordinates the activities within the region, develops new chapters, and arranges regional events. If the Bailli Délégué is unable to perform an induction ceremony, the Regional Bailli, a National Officer, or a Pair may be authorized to serve in his capacity.

Local chapters are headed by a Bailli who is the most important executive and administrative officer in the organization. It is the Bailli who recommends admission of new members to the society, schedules the events for his chapter and proposes elevations in rank. He is assisted in his efforts by a group of officers selected by the membership of the local Bailliage.

Officers and members may be suspended or removed for cause at any time for conduct not in keeping with the objectives of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

Mission Statement of the U. S. Chaine

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Bailliage des Etats-Unis, unites professional and amateur gastronomes in a private, not-for-profit society committed to promoting the culinary arts and those of enology and hospitality through example, education, and camaraderie. Based on the great traditions and high standards of the medieval French guild of rôtisseurs or "meat roasters," our confrérie celebrates the pleasures of the table, encourages the development of young professionals by awarding scholarships and sponsoring competitions, and, as part of an international organization, fosters friendships among members around the world.
